Medic-CE logoLEHI, Utah—October 4, 2016—Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and professional training, is pleased to announce its acquisition of Medic-CE, LLC, one of the leading providers of online continuing education for emergency medical service (EMS) and firefighting professionals. This acquisition expands Career Step’s professional training offerings into another sector of healthcare.

“At Career Step, we continue to focus on helping people improve their lives and advance their careers through education designed for real application in the healthcare arena,” said Steve Tober, Career Step President and CEO. “The acquisition of Medic-CE enables us to take our education and innovative training one step further. We are now able to combine Medic-CE’s robust learning and record management system and its considerable online continuing education course library, with our live online, instructor-led training, which we added this past January through the acquisition of Code3 CME. This combination of tools is the only unified solution in the market that enables EMS professionals to meet all of their didactic continuing education requirements in one place.”

Founded in 2006 and based in Houston, Texas, Medic-CE currently serves more than 75,000 individual learners and 200 EMS and fire agencies. The company offers self-paced online continuing education that is written and developed by subject matter experts. All of the EMS programs are nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) and are accepted by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

“With high-quality courses and easy-to-use technology, Medic-CE has grown to become one of the largest providers of EMS online continuing education over the past eight years,” said Richard Ezzeddine, MD, co-founder of Medic-CE. “Teaming up with Career Step provides a unique opportunity to rapidly expand our course offerings and further enhance our technology as well as become the first company to offer virtual instructor-led training through an advanced learning management platform. Calling a Code Alert on Our Mental Health

Our first responders are experiencing an alarming rate of stress and even accompanying thoughts of suicide*. With recent violent events and the critical haunting calls experienced over time, it is important that we pay close attention to our first responders. Knowing how to help them manage their stress and recognize the signs of a mental health condition will help all of us provide the right assistance.

Code3 CME, a Career Step company, sponsored this webinar with the Code Green Campaign. Presented by Code Green Campaign Ann Marie Farina, this webinar discusses how to:

  • Be alert to the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions.
  • Help our employees learn resilience.
  • Help someone in crisis.
  • Ensure your agency is active in changing the culture.

Watch the webinar today.

Code3 CME, a Career Step Company, to Sponsor Webinar on First Responder Mental Health and Suicide Prevention with the Code Green Campaign

Code3 CME, a provider of online EMT, paramedic and critical care transport refresher training and a Career Step company, is sponsoring a 1-hour webinar, Calling A Code Alert On Our Mental Health. The webinar will be held July 20 at 2 p.m. Eastern in conjunction with the Code Green Campaign, a first responder oriented mental health advocacy and education organization. The online program is free to attend, will provide attendees one continuing education unit and will be presented by Ann Marie Farina, President of the Code Green Campaign.

“Our fire and EMS providers are facing stress levels that are unprecedented in the public safety profession,” said Judson Smith, founder of Code3 CME and Vice President of Continuing Education at Career Step. “We are seeing a drastic increase in responder suicide and PTSD. With current events, increased workloads, and the emergencies responders see day in and day out, it is easy to see why this stress is taking such a toll. Everyone in the EMS industry needs to be aware of this issue, and we want support resources that help first responders manage their stress, recognize signs of mental health conditions and provide the right assistance.”

During the presentation, Ms. Farina will discuss how to be alert to the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions and how to help someone in crisis. Specific attention will be paid to how leaders can help employees learn resilience and ensure their agencies are active in changing the culture of silence.

“We are very excited for this webinar and grateful for Code3 CME’s sponsorship,” said Ms. Farina. “Our goals with this presentation mirror those of our organization as a whole: to raise awareness to and the impact of the high rates of PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and suicide among first responders and to provide education for responders on how to provide care for themselves and recognize issues in their peers. We want to reduce the stigma and improve access to mental health care to better serve those who so valiantly serve all of us.”

Code3 CME also offers the first responder audience a number of online instructor-led refresher and continuing education training programs. It is sponsoring the efforts of the Code Green Campaign to support both its students and instructors, who are all actively serving in various EMS positions.

The webinar presentation will be held July 20 at 2 p.m. Eastern time. It is free to attend and open to everyone. Registration is required at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/1345393589637390339.

"Call To Duty" Honor the Training of U.S. Military Medic Veterans

“Call To Duty”

Honor the Training of U.S. Military Medic Veterans

October 19, 2015, Denver, CO

By:  Judson Smith, BBA, MHA, Paramedic

The Veteran Emergency Medical Technicians Support Act of 2015 will allow our military medics to transition into a vacant EMT or Paramedic position upon completion of military service, and reduce unemployment amongst veterans

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s Occupational Outlook, there will be over 50,000 new civilian EMT and Paramedic jobs between 2012 – 2022.  The projected growth is now well over 20%, more rapid than first anticipated.

With the military downsizing or reducing the force, there are thousands of certified and highly trained military medics who are available and willing to go into the workforce.  Unfortunately, they are forced to duplicate their military training and attend a civilian EMT or Paramedic school to obtain a license to practice.

This legislation is important to make it easier for our nations veterans to transition from military to civilian EMS easier and faster.   This will ultimately assist with filling the very demanding and needed career field in communities across the United States.

S. 453/H.R. 1818 address the following issues:

1.  Determines the extent to which the requirements for education, training and skill level of emergency medical technicians in the State are equivalent to the same requirements as the skill level of military emergency medical technicians.

2.  Identifying methods, such as waivers, for military emt’s to either forgo or meet any such equivalent State requirements.

3.  Will direct the Department of Health and Human Services to establish a demonstration program for states with a shortage of EMTs to streamline the requirements at the state level as well as procedures for veterans who completed military EMT training to meet state certification, licensure as well as other requirements.

Take action by contacting your members of Congress and encourage them to support this very important legislation, our nations military service medics, and the communities we serve across the United States.

CODE3 CME PROUDLY SUPPORTS THIS LEGISLATION.
